Lenawee County was created in 1826 and has an estimated area of 761sq mi. The county seat and the largest city are in Adrian. It constitutes a total population of around 98.9 K people with an intermingling cohabitation of White, Native American, black or African American, Asian, Hispanic or Latino, Pacific Islander, and others with about 35.9K households and 26K families. It was named for a Henry Schoolcraft neologism suggesting a Native American word for man -- either from the Delaware "leno or lenno" or the Shawnee "lenawai".
